About this subreddit:

A place to read spine-tingling, unusual, terrifyingly true stories about people you never want to meet again.

Rules:

  1. 1. Absolutely no fiction or paranormal stories. Real, in-person encounters with the living only.

    Fictional and/or paranormal stories should be posted a subreddit dedicated to them, such as r/nosleep, r/shortscarystories, or r/paranormal

  2. 2. NO PROMOTION
    • Posts and comments promoting YouTube channels will be removed. If you want permission to narrate a submission, please PM users instead. Violators of this rule will receive a 3 day ban.

    * Additionally, do not include permission for YouTubers to narrate your story in your LNM submission.

    • If you do not want your story narrated and do not want to be bothered with PMs asking for permission, you have the option to flair your story with the flair "NO NARRATIONS."
  3. 3. No stories focusing primarily on sexual assault or rape.

    This includes any form of sexual assault, pedophilia, sexual harassment, or lewd behavior (such as a creeper exposing him or herself). It also includes sexual harassment such as catcalling.

  4. 4. No series posts

    Do not write out a finished experience intending to make multiple posts. However, you may provide updates to ongoing encounters.

  5. 5. Encounter must have happened to you

    Stories posted here should be from your own recollection of events. We’re far more interested in stories that happened to you; if you focus on something that happened to a friend or family member, it may be removed at the discretion of a mod.

  6. 6. No "i knew someone who did bad things but not to me" posts

    Stories that focus on how you met or knew somebody who did horrible things, but not to you are not allowed and will be removed. Please consider posting to /r/serialkillers, or /r/MorbidReality instead.

  7. 7. Fictional names are REQUIRED

    To preserve privacy and anonymity fictional names are required. However, do not mention they are fictional (such as saying "lets call them X") and do NOT use initials. These break immersion and make it difficult to follow along.

    Submissions violating this rule will be removed.

  8. 8. No walls of text

    Do not submit a story as a wall of text. Enter paragraph breaks by hitting enter twice at the end of a paragraph.

  9. 9. Don't be an asshole

    • Commenting and saying that someone should’ve been stalked or had it coming is absolutely not allowed.

    • Questioning the truthfulness of a story is both allowed and encouraged, provided it is done politely and the reasons why you believe the story is not true are provided.

    • Absolutely no victim blaming and/or trolling. Engaging in this behavior will result in being permanently banned.

    • This includes starting and engaging in arguments.

  10. 10. Keep descriptions of layouts and personal appearances to a minimum

    Stories going into unnecessary detail about environment layout and personal appearance will be removed, including humble-bragging.

    Additionally, do not include racial identifiers of antagonists in your post as these frequently lead to arguments and loaded discussions in the comments.

  11. 11. No stories focusing on road rage or being briefly followed while driving

    Both of these instances are common enough that they do not belong on this subreddit. For an example of a story taking place in a car that would belong here, please see this story, titled No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

  12. 12. No stories that take place entirely online

    Stories like this should be posted in r/onlinehorrorstories
